    This invention relates to a process for the preparation of a new compound, 3-methyl-5- (2,2,3-trimethylcyclopent-3-en-1-yl) -pentan-2-ol, which has the smell of sandalwood oil and can be used to obtain perfumery compositions.
    There is a method of extracting sandalwood oil from wood of sandalwood by extraction 1. The disadvantages of the method are the low yield of santalols, their low resistance to oxygen in the air.
    The aim of the invention is to expand the range of substances with the smell of Sandesas oil.
    This goal is achieved by the method of obtaining 3-methyl-5- (2,2,3-trimethylcyclopent-3-en-1-yl) -pentan-2-ol
